Advance bday celebrations with my folks in JB over the weekend. As our favourite Chinese restaurant was fully booked for a wedding reception (again!), we decided to go back to this one restaurant we used to frequent years ago, on the presumption that if the restaurant is still standing after all these years, it must be doing well.
When we got to the place, we were surprised that the road leading into the restaurant was pitch black! There wasn't any indication of life beyond the restaurant signboard. But we persisted, and found the place. What struck me most was how badly the restaurant was maintained! Old and dirty looking tables and chairs that looked like they've been through a lot of hardship were scattered sparingly around the restaurant.
Dad ordered a wide variety of seafood that made our mouths water - cheese lobster, salted egg yolk crab, steamed fish, gong gong, bamboo, a veg and bday noodles. All of us were famished and couldn't wait for the food to come. But when they did, it was such a disappointment! The lobster was overcooked and the cheese tasted like crap, the gong gong and noodle were bland and unappetising. Only the fish, bamboo and crab were palatable!
After dinner, we had the ice-cream cake that P had so thoughtfully bought. Though the food was not great, I was glad it did not spoil our happy spirits. Thanks to Mom and Dad for the bday treat, to P for getting me a cake, to the 2 cute bros and Tai Q who graced the occasion with their presence! :)
On a separate note, went for eyelash perming but it was a failure! Thanks to the inexperienced gal who screwed up. Bleah!
